Students who are the children of veterans and will be attending the University of Illinois can apply for a tuition waiver, but must submit their applications by March 1, according to Senator Bill Brady.

The U of I awards a four-year tuition waiver to a natural or adopted child of a veteran. Up to six waivers per Illinois county are awarded each year, one for each of the following military conflicts: World War II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam Conflict, Southeast Asia Conflict, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

To be eligible, students must be permanent residents of the Illinois counties from which they apply, and must also be residents of Illinois. They must be admitted or have applied to the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, Springfield, Health Sciences Center, or Global Campus) by March 1, 2009, to be eligible for the first round of awarding.

The tuition waiver will cover in-state tuition (for undergraduate, graduate, or professional studies), beginning with the first term of enrollment after eligibility has been established (Summer 2009, Fall 2009, or Spring 2010 semester).
